For a while now I have had the need for a “WiFi Re Sharer”.

What is it?

Essentially  it is a self contained device capable of connecting to a WiFi hot spot.
Then creating another WiFi hot spot. Re Sharing the original network under a “new WiFi hot spot”

Why do you need it?

Many times WiFi hot spots come with annoying restrictions. For example, I have stayed in hotels which permit only one device to connect to their WiFi network.

But I have two laptops, two phones and a WiFi camera that’s 5 devices.

The Solution:

When I first set out to find a solution I started off with Google. I did not even know what to search for as this device does not yet exist.

I did find a couple of not quite what I need devices. I found a couple of Hard wired network to WiFi devices. The problem with this is hardly any hotel offers a hardwired connection. Almost ALL offer WiFi only.

Last time I was presented with the an annoying hotel WiFi policy. “Only two devices per room” I was able to circumvent it by essentially creating a “WiFi Re Sharer” using my laptop’s embedded WiFi and an additional USB WiFi card.

This worked well however, my laptop needed to be turned on all the time. If at any time I needed to take my laptop with me, all my and my friends devices back at the hotel no longer had internet.

I vowed to create a device such as this.

I was not sure how but I knew it would be created out of some cheap and small computing device. Perhaps a Raspberry Pi or a plug computer.
